Grand Canyon to Zion National Parks Tour
Our second tour went from the Grand Canyon to a bit South of Zion National Park. The wives did two long days of flying and driving to get my truck near Zion and dropped us off at the Grand Canyon. We drove to see Bryce Canyon, Montezuma's Castle/Well, Waputki, and several other Monuments. The North rim of the Grand Canyon is amazing. The folks around Hill City, UT were as strange and distanat as you might guess. Bring extra sunblock.

Lessons Learned:

  • Weight balancing... still doesn't matter as much as having things in convenient locations.
  • Road tours can easily tolerate 50miles/day fully loaded at a comfortable pace.
  • Check your tires before a tour, my rear tire had chunks coming off after the tour.
  • A few days biking followed by a few days driving to see sights makes a lot of sense when things are as spread out as they are in Utah and Arizona.

Services Used:

  • Grand Canyon North Rim camping was fantastic. Make reservations months in advance.
  • The road out of the North rim has such high rolling resistance we had to pedal on slight downhills to keep moving. It was the slowest road we've ever ridden on.
  • Camping along the road out of the North Rim is abundant.
  • The convenience store in Jacob's Lake is a great place to stop for food and water refill.
  • The ride to Fredonia is fast given you lose 6000 feet elecation. The restaurant on the right as you arrive in Frednonia is servicable.
